Ricky.. how long you have been in the industry?
I started in Taxi insurance in 2010 at Westminster Insurance as an AR for Tradex Insurance. As with a lot of people in the industry I just fell into it, a friend of my older brother needed someone part time to help out completing claims forms and taking quote details etc, 13 years later I’m still at it.
How long have you been with IFM?
As of writing this 3 weeks.
If you weren’t in insurance what would you like to do?
Probably a historian, I love history, particularly anything WW2 related, I’ve wasted a lot of time watching documentaries and reading books on the subject.
Where you are from?
Sheffield, I grew up in Gleadless and I’ve lived in Walkley for over 7 years.
Tell us about your typical weekend
I normally meet some friends in the pub on a Friday night straight after work. I tend to play Golf on either Saturday or Sunday and during the football season go to matches when I can. I like to try and leave one day free at the weekend (Normally Sundays) so I can do a lot of nothing and reset.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy live music, golf and going to the football.
What’s your favourite holiday location?
Austin Texas or New Orleans, both have the best food and incredible music scenes. I’m planning on travelling to Asia in 2024 or 2025 as it’s a part of the world I still haven’t been to.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is the tough, I’d probably go with fried chicken or chilli.
What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?
I don’t really have a sweet tooth, I’ll have to go with the boring answer and say Vanilla.
What type of music are you into?
I like a wide range of music, I used to attend a lot of local punk gigs during the early to mid 2000’s. I’ve travelled a lot for various music festivals including Primavera in Barcelona and Austin Psych fest in Texas. The bands currently getting most listening time on my Spotify are Night Beats, Black Angels, The Sundays and Pulp.
What was the last TV show you binge-watched?
I’ve just finished watching The Last Of Us and Succession, both are great and very well written. I have just finished rewatching the first season of True Detective which is one of my favourite TV series of all time.
What do you do on your commute to/from work?
I like to listen to music or podcasts on the way to and from work.
What’s the phone app you use most?
Spotify.
What’s your favourite board game?
Scrabble or Monopoly.
Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
Prior to insurance I used to work at Thou Art Tattoo Studio in Sheffield city centre. The cast of This Is England used to pop in the studio regularly whilst filming This Is England 86. They got pretty friendly and even invited us to the wrap party at The Cremorne on Abbeydale Road.
What would you change about yourself if you could?
I’d love to be a morning person, unfortunately I’m quite the opposite.
What would be the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?
Travel, I’d gather friends and family and take them all on a massive round the world trip.
